Reviews for Carlo's
Review highlights
Based on 1,249 reviewsCarlo's is widely recognized for its high-quality fish and chips, praised for fresh, generously portioned fish with a light, crispy batter and homemade chips. Customers consistently commend the friendly and attentive staff, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere despite the fast-paced environment. The establishment is noted for its cleanliness and fresh presentation, offering a pleasant dining experience that extends to surprisingly good coffee and an appealing ice cream selection. While most ratings highlight great value for money, some feedback mentions that prices are on the higher side and options for dietary restrictions, such as gluten-free choices, are limited. Overall, Carlo's stands out as a highly recommended spot for classic fish and chips with thoughtful service and quality ingredients.
Fish (cod) was huge and served with a large portion of chips. Both were excellent quality and served by a young lady who, while very busy, still had time to be friendly and personable. The coffee we had was also very high quality, quite a surprise for a chip shop. Too full to try what looked to be an excellent range of ice cream.
This is a splendid fish’n chip shop. So clean and fresh. The cod was superb, the batter crispy, light and not greasy. Totally yummy. I wish I could go again tomorrow. A very friendly place.
Very, very good fish and chips. One of the best we have ever had. Portions were enormous and the fish wonderfully fresh with a light batter. Great tartare sauce but I was not a huge fan of the mushy peas, they were a little bland. The staff were also very nice. Highly recommended.
The picture is my husband. I worked in a fish & chip shop, I don’t eat them, I’m the biggest critique because of my experience, however I did eat at Carlos. Review: Carlos’s quality of fish and chips are outstanding. The fish batter is light and crisp, the portions are good, the chips are home made. Grand staff also. Well done guys I do however find it rather pricy!!! Not gluten free also
I was so happy to have actual value for money. We ordered a single black pudding, 6 piece fish bites , haddock supper and some chips. All were very acceptable portions and very freshly served, the fish in particular was perfect. I can't remember the last time I had a chippy and was as pleased with what we got and paid. The best by a long way 10/10
Excellent fish & chips! Went for takeaway on a Monday evening while staying in Alnwick, and it was very busy - a good sign! Despite that, the friendly service was speedy, and the food was excellent! It is also possible to eat in, should you wish. Highly recommended.
Their haddock fish and chips are amazing! The batter is so light and crispy, not greasy at all! We dined in, and my partner ordered the regular portion, which was massive—enough to feed two! I got the small one, but it was still super filling. The curry and tartar sauces were perfect together; we loved them! However, it was pricey; we paid £30.50 for the regular and small portions. The gelato was awesome too; I got two scoops for £4!
